Juanie Fowlkes is a writer, producer, and educator whose work follows Black women through the love they chase, the grief they carry, and the joy they refuse to surrender. She is currently on faculty at DePaul University and previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Cornell University.

Her short film Hopeless earned over 15 festival selections including Urbanworld, Black Girls Rock, Roxbury International, Rhode Island International, and Toronto Black Film Festivals. She is currently in active development on two features: a co-write with acclaimed writer/director Rodrigo Garcia and a rom-com commissioned by Pauline Fischer, former Head of Content at Netflix. On the television side, Juanie served as Showrunner's Assistant on Season 2 of THEM (Amazon Prime/Sony Pictures Television) under Executive Producer Little Marvin, where she worked across all eight episodes from pre-production through post. She also served as support staff on HBO's Lovecraft Country S2 mini-room. She was a 2021 inaugural Hillman Grad Writing Fellow under Lena Waithe and a 2025 semi-finalist for both the Disney Writing Fellowship and the USC Civic Media Fellowship. She is also a 2026 finalist for Lily Wachowski's Anarchists United Writers Discovery Fellowship.

She is the founder of Kinfowlkes Media and the creator of Kinfowlk, a networking community for emerging Black women in entertainment. Juanie holds an MFA in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute and a BA in Digital Media from the University of the District of Columbia.
